Colington Volunteer Fire Department is a small, dedicated department with both Career and Volunteer professionals responding to the needs of a diverse, ever-growing community. Originally, Colington Fire Department was a district of the Kitty Hawk Volunteer Fire Department, which at that time reponded to fires in the village of Duck, Towns of Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk and the village of Colington. This was quite a broad geographical area to cover, so in 1971, a station was built to meet the growing needs of the relatively small number of residents in Colington. Due to tremendous growth in the Colington community, the Colington Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1981 and a state charter was granted in 1982. Since that time, what was once a small, dedicated group of individuals with minimal equipment is now a combination Fire Rescue agency with modern apparatus and equipment. While we are primarily supported by fire tax district funding, we also obtain additional funds through fundraisers and weekly BINGO. Bingo is held every Wednesday. Doors open at 5:30 and play begins at 6:30
