When visiting the Corolla Beaches in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, there are a few things to consider. The wild horses that roam the beaches of Corolla are a part of Outer Banks history, and though they are beautiful to look at, it is illegal to come within fifty feet of them. Do not feed the horses, and use caution while driving on the beach and the roads. Driving on the beach is a classic Outer Banks vacation pleasure. Driving North on Route 12 approximately two miles past the Corolla lighthouse the paved road will end. At this point you may drive North on the Currituck beaches year round. Driving on the Corolla beaches south of this point is restricted from May 1st until October 1st. When visiting the Outer Banks beaches please conserve the area and the wildlife. Do not drive, walk or allow pets in posted bird or turtle nesting areas. Not all Outer Banks beach accesses have trash facilities so please carry your trash out with you and dispose of it properly. Remember; Take only pictures or seashells and leave only footprints and sandcastles. Don't forget to click on the Map/Gallery button above for your Outer Banks Maps before you go Coastal Exploring.
