The Duke Of Dare Motor Lodge is located on Roanoke Island, the birthplace of the New World. On this island, in 1587, England attempted their first permanent settlement in the Americas. The colonist referred to their new home as the "goodliest land under the cope of heaven," and it was here that "Virginia Dare" became the first English child born in the new world. By 1590, these colonist had vanished without a trace, creating the mystery of the Lost Colony.
Located in the center of a vacation paradise, we offer convenient access to this and many other historic sites, world renowned beaches, and some of the most legendary fishing on the East Coast.
